Code of Conduct

  • It’s A Black Dance!

At LindyPott, we love all swing dances because of the joy they bring and the way they connect people in the most beautiful way through creativity and movement. Therefore, we believe in some core values that Lindy Hop and all other swing dances share - the respect for all human beings and the ideal of an inclusive and diverse community. Together, we are committed to fostering, cherishing, and protecting these ideals.

CODE OF CONDUCT

LindyPott is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone in our community. Therefore, all participants, DJs, musicians, teachers, and the entire LindyPott team are required to comply with the following Code of Conduct at all of our events. We expect all participants to respect and follow this code of conduct to ensure a safe environment for everybody.

Of course, we are talking about social interactions between adults who are responsible for themselves, so we cannot actually control the behavior of each individual - and that is not our intention. But just like anywhere else in society, we cannot completely rule out the possibility of unacceptable behavior by individuals. In such cases, LindyPott is committed to taking action. So let's all take care of ourselves and others together!

We do not tolerate any discriminatory, harassing, degrading or threatening behavior - this includes (but is not limited to):

  • Offensive comments, abuse, or harassment related to, for example, gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, age, height, origin, ethnicity, religion, dance level, or dance role.
  • Permanent disruption of classes or events
  • Inappropriate physical contact or unwanted (sexual) attention
  • Photographing or filming others without prior permission
  • Intentional intimidation or stalking
  • Putting others at risk, e.g. by doing aerials (a no-go on the social dancefloor!), dips or tricks without prior consent of the dance partner or without looking out for dancers around you.
  • Ignoring basic rules of social dancing (see infographic at the bottom of the page)

If you find yourself exposed to such unacceptable behavior or witness another person being harmed or harassed, what can you do?

  • Trust your judgment if something feels wrong. Be mindful of yourself and others. Speak up if something is not right for you, or walk away from an uncomfortable situation.
  • You can always reach out to the LindyPott team so we can help you. You can approach us directly during a class or event for immediate advice and support, or email us at team@lindypott.de.
  • We promise to listen to you without judging you and to take action according to your needs or to discuss unclear situations together. Talks will be treated confidentially as far as possible.
  • In case of harassment, LindyPott will take action against anyone who violates the Code of Conduct. Breaches will initially be followed by a warning. In the event of repeated violations or a severe violation, LindyPott reserves the right to exclude the respective persons from all LindyPott events.

Our Commitment:

  • LindyPott is committed to this Code of Conduct and to gender-neutral teaching methods. Everybody is free to choose their dance role, regardless of gender.  LindyPott also commits to addressing the importance of consent in the classroom: Discussions about consent, dance floor etiquette, communication between dance partners, and safety are just as important elements of all LindyPott programs as the acquisition of dance skills.
  • It's A Black Dance! Ask and learn about the history and cultural context of swing and blues dances and their development up to today. Our team will support you and provide background information in classes. You may also want to take a look at our collection of resources to get you started :-)
